Leo D. Shaffer was born in Altoona, Pa., ca.1904. He attended Soldiers' Orphans School, Chester Springs, Pa., and was graduated in 1922 from the Scotland School in Franklin County, Pa. Mr. Shaffer worked at various jobs in Pennsylvania and New York before moving to Detroit in 1930. From 1930 to 1934 he worked for Artic Dairy and Motor Products Company, and at Ternstedt from 1934 to 1941. In May, 1937 he joined the UAW and was a member of West Side Local 174.
